The Basics of Teen Patti
So, let’s get the basics sorted before we learn how to play Teen Patti. The game is usually played by between three and six players, and it uses a standard 52-card deck. The joker cards from the deck are not used in Teen Patti.
As far as payment goes, you pay your boot each round, a predetermined price for being in the Teen Patti game and this all goes together to form the pot in the centre of the table. The pot is essentially what you are all playing for.
The game of Teen Patti has many similarities with poker and while there are also big differences, if you have a rough idea of how poker games work then you will have a slight advantage here.
Variations of Teen Patti
The first think you need to know is that there are many different variations of Teen Patti. Each of them has a name, look out for popular variations such as muflis, AK47, lowest card joker and many more.
Whichever version of Teen Patti you play, make sure you understand that variation fully and don’t move onto another until you are comfortable. Learn how to play Teen Patti in a particular way before moving on to another version of the game. Although the differences may only be small in numbers, it could be the difference between winning and losing.
Teen Patti Rules
The Teen Patti rules are a simple element of the game, which is good for new players. The cards are put in order where ace is ranked high and two is the lowest card of the deck.
The goal for players is to have the best 3-card hand of those playing, and also to increase the pot before the game ends, the more you do that, the more you win if you are successful.
It really is as simple as that, you just need the best 3-card hand to win. If you want to know how the different hands all rank with each other, we cover that later in this article.
How a Game of Teen Patti Takes Place
If you think you are ready to move onto how a game of Teen Patti takes place then here is where we will run you through that, so you know what each step looks like.
To begin a game of Teen Patti, the deck of cards is shuffled and each player who is in the game is dealt three cards. These are face down, so you don’t know what you have until you look at them yourself, the other players don’t know what you have at this stage.
Playing Blind or Seen
Here you have the option to flip the cards and play as seen, or you can choose to play blind, these are the two options that face players at this early stage of the game.
Playing blind means that you won’t be checking the cards you have been dealt and you will be betting without knowing what you have. This is of course a risk, but a method of play that some players prefer.
Playing seen, or sometimes called Chaal, allows you to check your cards and then you either choose to fold and give up the game if you don’t like the cards or you can bet knowing what you have. If you have a good hand you may want to bet more in this instance.
In Game Teen Patti Moves
While playing the game there are other moves you can make to try and give yourself the best chance of winning.
A sideshow move, also called a back show is one you can do. You will have seen your cards when doing this and can bet accordingly. Here you ask the last player who placed a bet on their cards to accept the sideshow move, but they don’t have to.
A show can come at the end of the game, if two players are left and one of these can ask for a show. In this case here is what happens. If a seen player asks a blind player, the seen player will have to place a bet of 4x the current stake. If both players are seen, they have to pay double the stake amount. If you are a blind player, you do not have the ability to ask to show.
It is possible to have a tie in Teen Patti. This occurs when the final two players decide to not show, or to pack the game. At this point, the rules of the game will dictate what happens. With some variations, the pot is split between the two players, while in others the pot is returned to each player who has put in.
The Different Hands in Teen Patti
Here are the different hands you can make to gain a win in Teen Patti, beginning with the best hand in the game and working down to the lowest hand.
A trio or trail is the best hand in the game. This is a three card hand with the same number, for example, three 7’s.
A straight run of the same suit is next, this is a run of numbers but all using the same suit, so a run of spades for example, let’s say 4, 5, 6 of spades.
A Normal run comes next, just like above it is a run of three cards but this time they do not have to be in the same suit, they can be different.
A flush is next, this is three cards of the same suit and colour, regardless of order, so for example, three hearts in the same hand.
A pair is next, this is if you have two cards that are the same from your three. For example, you have 7, 7, 9, this is a pair of 7’s that forms your hand.
High card is the last option for a Teen Patti player, you have nothing of the above and are simply playing with the highest card you have. If you have 6, 9, K, then your highest card is a king, and this is what your hand is.
The beauty of Teen Patti can be found in its simplicity. It’s a card game where the player can pick it up quickly. But, once a player has learned how to play Teen Patti, they then need to master the game. It can be considered a very tactical game, where experienced players are far more likely to prosper.
